As of 2006 the price is $50 per day per person
  • This area has steep slopes of loose rock. with a lot of digging & screening into the hill.
  • Bring your own tools.. shovel, screen, food water etc. NO facilities
  • No one under the age of 16
  • Wear boots or tennis shoes..no open toed shoes
  • Beware of poison oak
 
This is a more rugged mine, but we like the pieces we find better, and you can find a place in the shade to dig. You can find very nice pieces of tourmaline, some quartz crystals.

This is a flat parking area where they dump the mine tailings in a pile, and set up workstations all around it. You get a bucket of material and take it back to your station and screen it. Don't go when it is hot.... you are standing out in the beating sun all day. You can find tourmaline, kunzite, quartz crystals, smokey quartz, aquamarine, morganite... etc.

 We stayed at the Lake Henshaw Resort. It has some old fishing cabins that you can stay in. This is near where you meet for the Himalaya Mine.

There are also bed & breakfast places in Julian, CA near the mine.

It is really cheap, and has tenting & RV spaces available

Cabins run about $50 - $70 per night.. sleeps 4-6 people... make reservations in advance, they book quick.

 If you are going to the Ocean View Mine only...You can also stay at the Pala Casino. It is a little pricy... but a nice place to stay with good food... and really close to the mine.
