We had 34 turkeys, oops, it was
34 rock hounds and two turkeys show up for the Thanksgiving camp
out. Weather cooperated with 1 inch of rain Tuesday night that
settled the dust, with warm days and cool nights for the rest
of the week.
Several local rockhounds from
Lancaster and Palmdale clubs showed us several good collecting
sites near Kramer Junction. Everyone found lots of Palmroot agate,
colorful Jasper, opallite in many different colors. There were
many large pieces of banded onyx collected. One large palmwood
stump 18" diameter found by the Mariposa group.
The nights were spent around
the campfire telling tall tails and bragging about the rocks that
got away. Plans are already being made for next year's trip. The
rest of the time was spent eating. Many thanks to all of the wives
and girlfriends for the many great side dishes prepared for our
dinner. Special thanks to Marion and Vivian Roberts for the great
Turkeys and dressing, and the two pancake breakfasts served by
Marion Roberts.
It's always the people who make
these campouts so special.
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THIER
