Afton Canyon Trip
2006
The turkeys made it to Afton Canyon, those with
feathers and those without. The weather was the best ever for
turkey day, sunshine and warm. 31 rockhounds arrived for the festivities
along with 17 of mans best friend in addition to their wives.
Tuesday and Wednesday was used to search out new locations of
which their many yet unexplored. During the search we also found
a silver mine complete with a miners cove fully furnished, bed,
books, hand carved walking sticks, and aerosol cans to sniff things
got boring. No silver to be found. On Wednesday we were treated
to the sight of a desert Big Horn sheep posing for pictures before
running over the hill.
Thursday arrived with a pancake flambeau by chef Marion Roberts
with a side of bacon or sausage. Then preparation were begun for
the main course Turkey deep fried, with all the trimming provided
by the rockhound, etc. This was followed by a lot of tall tails
and bragging around the camp fire, while eating marshmallow and
other goodies. With fireworks every night provided by EVC camped
across the river.
Friday and Saturday were consumed with collecting
treasures of various descriptions. We found fluorite, seganite,
agate, jasper, amaguiles and many others of unknown descriptions.
To the best of my knowledge everyone had a good time and is ready
for next year to come around. The group decided we would go to
Lavic Siding next year so make you reservations now before we
run out of desert..
